Atlético-MG in the Brasileirão 2026: check out the team, recent performances, tips, and the best odds for Galo in Série A!

Atlético-MG enters the Brasileirão Série A aiming to improve on its mid-table performance and return to the Copa Libertadores.

Atlético-MG arrives for the 2026 season marking its 64th participation in the Série A of the Brazilian Championship. With the new calendar, Galo fans will be able to follow the team in the national top flight earlier in the year, also bringing forward opportunities to enjoy sports betting.

The black-and-white club from Belo Horizonte made changes to the squad both to improve on last season’s mid-table finish and to aim for something more. Check out the details about the team in this special Blaze guide, breaking down every participant in the Brasileirão 2026.

New Brasileirão calendar

First of all, it is worth remembering that the Brazilian football calendar has undergone changes. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) brought the start of the Brasileirão forward, moving it from April to January. This is because, in 2026, the World Cup takes place mid-year, between June and July.

As a result, state championships were shortened, the Copa do Brasil opened spots for more teams, and the Brasileirão was extended. In Série A, Atlético-MG makes its debut on January 18 at 7:00 p.m. (Brasília time), playing at home. The team faces Palmeiras, last season’s runner-up. The competition runs until December 2. The changes to the country’s main tournament will remain in effect until 2029.

Atlético-MG

A three-time Brazilian champion, Atlético-MG was the team that most recently broke the Rio–São Paulo axis dominance in the Brasileirão. Galo won the Brazilian Championship in 2021 after 40 years without lifting the national top-division trophy.

Performance in 2025

Last season, Galo finished as a mid-table team but ended up losing more matches than it won, with 12 victories, 14 defeats, and 12 draws. As a result, the team finished the 2025 Brasileirão in 11th place with 48 points. This performance earned the club a spot in the group stage of the 2026 Copa Sudamericana.

Squad

Atlético-MG saw some important names leave the squad for the new season. Left-back Guilherme Arana was signed by Fluminense, while midfielder Gabriel Menino was loaned to Santos. There are also uncertainties regarding the future of forward Hulk.

On the other hand, Galo went to the market and signed left-back Renan Lodi, who was a free agent after terminating his contract with Al-Hilal in September, and defensive midfielder Maycon, formerly of Corinthians. The club is also trying to bring back midfielder Fred from Fenerbahçe.

A curious detail: among the reinforcements for the 2026 season, there is a pair of namesakes. The club signed midfielder Victor Hugo, a Flamengo player who was on loan at Santos in 2025, and center back Vitor Hugo, who was already at Atlético-MG on loan from Bahia and now joins the Belo Horizonte side permanently.

Main Atlético-MG odds in the Brasileirão 2026 at Blaze

A fourth Brazilian title for Atlético-MG could be a difficult mission. The odds indicate a gap between the club and another Série A trophy. Galo is priced at 25.0 to win the title, behind Flamengo, Palmeiras, rivals Cruzeiro, Botafogo, Fluminense, and Bahia, and level with Corinthians.

However, excluding Flamengo, which has been dominating the national scene, the numbers change slightly, with the odds for the Belo Horizonte side dropping to 17.0. Even so, the club still trails Palmeiras, Cruzeiro, Fluminense, Bahia, and Botafogo.

It may be more realistic to see the club return to the G4 and qualify for the Copa Libertadores, a competition it did not play in 2025 and also failed to qualify for in 2026. To finish in the G4 and secure a continental spot for 2027, Atlético-MG has odds of 3.75, higher than those of the previously mentioned rivals.

What do you think Galo will achieve this season? Before placing your predictions, remember that odds can change as the competition progresses. Always stay attentive to the matches, what happens on the pitch, and also off the pitch.
