Formula 1 2025: Get to Know the Hungarian GP, Drivers, and Favorites on This Iconic Racing Circuit!
Get your helmet — and your heart — ready, because Formula 1 is about to go full throttle at the Hungaroring!
It’s time for Round 14 of the 2025 F1 season: the Hungarian Grand Prix takes place this Sunday, August 3, and promises daring overtakes, bold strategies, and that final emotional twist before the sport’s summer break. And of course, you’ll be able to follow along and place your sports bets!
After a weekend filled with sprint action and Oscar Piastri’s victory—plus plenty of rain in the chaos of Spa—drivers now face a tighter circuit where every turn matters. This could also be the last GP of the year to feature major car upgrades, as teams begin shifting their focus to 2026.
There will be three practice sessions on Friday and Saturday, followed by qualifying. Fresh off his win in Belgium, Australian driver Oscar Piastri arrives in Hungary leading the 2025 Formula 1 standings with 266 points, closely followed by Britain’s Lando Norris with 250.
Can anyone break this duo’s dominance in the season? We’ve put together this special guide with everything you need to know about the 2025 Hungarian GP. Check it out below!
What Is the Hungarian Grand Prix Like?
Located about 20 km from Budapest, this narrow, twisty, and abrasive circuit has been the home of the Hungarian GP since 1986 — and it’s full of history!
It was the first F1 venue in a former Eastern Bloc country, built in record time, and has since become a staple on the calendar. But don’t be fooled — racing here is no easy task. The track is tight, with very few overtaking opportunities.
The most popular spot for a bold move? The end of the main straight after the pit lane. Beyond that, it’s a battle of patience, and those who shine in qualifying usually carry that momentum into Sunday.
The Hungaroring is 4.381 km long and features a mix of medium- and low-speed corners. It demands maximum downforce and full concentration from the drivers. And of course, you can’t talk about this track without mentioning its king: Lewis Hamilton, who holds a record eight wins here!
Which Teams Are Competing in the 2025 Hungarian GP?
All ten Formula 1 teams will be on the grid, each fielding their two regular drivers — 20 names in total. Here’s the complete lineup for this round:
- Red Bull Racing: Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson
- McLaren-Mercedes: Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri
- Ferrari: Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton
- Mercedes-AMG Petronas: George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli
- Aston Martin Aramco: Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll
- Alpine-Renault: Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan
- Haas-Ferrari: Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman
- Racing Bulls: Yuki Tsunoda and Isack Hadjar
- Williams: Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz Jr.
- Kick Sauber F1 Team: Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto
How is the 2025 Formula 1 season going?
Anyone who thought this would be another year of Verstappen domination was seriously mistaken! The championship has been turned upside down compared to recent seasons, and the new order on the grid is orange: McLaren is flying, with Oscar Piastri leading the Drivers’ Championship with 266 points and his teammate Lando Norris right behind with 250.
Meanwhile, Verstappen is still showing his claws in third place with 185 points — though patience and calm are not exactly the Dutch driver's strongest traits. Right behind, rounding out the top five, are George Russell with 157 and Charles Leclerc with 139.
In sixth place, Lewis Hamilton proves he’s still got premium fuel in the tank, with 109 points. And what he did in Spa — starting 18th and finishing 7th — was pure masterclass!
Next up, rookie Kimi Antonelli shows promise with 63 points, followed by Alexander Albon (54), Nico Hülkenberg (37), and Esteban Ocon closing out the top 10 with 27 points.
And Brazil? It’s on the grid and scoring! Gabriel Bortoleto shined in Spa, adding two more points to reach six in total — just two behind Oliver Bearman (8) and ahead of Franco Colapinto, who has yet to score.
In the Constructors’ Championship, McLaren leads the pack with 516 points, opening a huge gap over Ferrari (248) and Mercedes (220). Red Bull, now under the leadership of Laurent Mekies after Christian Horner’s departure, is still trying to find its rhythm and has only 192 points so far.
Which Grands Prix have already taken place in F1 2025?
The 2025 Formula 1 season has already delivered 13 thrilling races. It all kicked off with the Australian GP, followed by races in China, Japan, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia. Then F1 headed to Miami before hitting the classic Imola circuit in Emilia-Romagna.
The season continued with the glamorous Monaco GP, the challenging Spanish GP, and the Canadian round. The second half of this intense calendar brought the Austrian, British, and most recently, the Belgian GPs.
Who are the favorites to win the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix?
Hungaroring may not be the most generous track for overtaking, but that’s exactly what makes it a tactical race — where nailing the strategy is just as important as having a fast car. With McLaren dominating, Red Bull chasing redemption, and Ferrari and Mercedes trying to crash the party, the big question is: who’s taking the win in Hungary?
Race Winner
Oscar Piastri (2.3) and Lando Norris (2.4) are the clear favorites to lift the trophy at Hungaroring — and rightly so. The duo has been dominating the season, driving the most balanced car on the grid, and they know that a strong start could be decisive on this tight circuit.
Max Verstappen (5.5) follows next, still with that champion’s flair, but he’ll need an almost perfect Sunday to overcome the papaya-colored cars. Leclerc (9.0), Russell (15.0), and even Hamilton (17.0) have longer odds but are talented drivers who could spring a surprise.
Winning Team
McLaren (1.25) has already shown it’s the team to beat this season, and the odds reflect that. Red Bull (5.4), now under new management, is still trying to find its footing but could emerge as the second-best team.
Ferrari (6.5) sits as the third force, with potential to surprise if the strategy hits the mark. Mercedes (11.0) isn’t among the favorites, but its experience could make a difference if an opportunity arises.
Top 3 Finish
Piastri (1.15) and Norris (1.17) are almost sure bets for the podium, with Verstappen (1.45) right behind as the third most likely contender. Leclerc (2.35) and Russell (3.0) offer strong alternatives, and of course, don’t count out Hamilton (3.3), who loves a comeback story.
