
2025 Copa do Brasil Round of 16’s First Leg: Matchups, Favorites, and Where to Watch!
Brazil's most democratic competition is entering its decisive phase as the 2025 Copa do Brasil reaches the Round of 16!
From nearly 90 teams at the start of the tournament, only 16 remain. The first leg of the Round of 16 kicks off between July 29 and 31, promising excitement for football fans and sports bettors alike.
The second leg is scheduled between August 5 and 7, with a new draw to determine the quarter-final matchups.

Botafogo vs Bragantino
Bragantino is one of the few teams remaining from the early rounds of the Copa do Brasil. They began by eliminating Sousa on penalties (5–4) after a 1–1 draw, then knocked out São José-RS, also on penalties.
In the third round (where two-legged ties begin and Botafogo entered the tournament), Bragantino eliminated Criciúma with a dominant 7–0 aggregate. Botafogo beat Capital 4–0 in the first leg but lost the return leg by one goal away.
Now, they meet in the opening match of the Round of 16, the only game on Tuesday (29), kicking off at 7 PM (Brasília time) at Nilton Santos Stadium (Engenhão).

Botafogo and Bragantino have played 28 matches: 12 Botafogo wins, 8 for Bragantino, and 8 draws. They met in the 2016 Copa do Brasil third round, with Botafogo advancing.
Predictions
Botafogo holds a solid edge at home. Their win odds stand at 1.61, while Bragantino’s are 5.6, and a draw is at 3.75. For qualification, Botafogo is still favored: 1.48 vs 2.55.

CSA vs Vasco
Kicking off Wednesday (30), CSA hosts Vasco at 7 PM at Rei Pelé Stadium in Maceió. This is their third Copa do Brasil Round of 16 meeting in history, with both teams starting the tournament in the first round.
CSA won its first-round match 2–0 away against Boavista, then crushed Tuna Luso 5–0 at home. In the third round, they knocked out Grêmio with a 3–2 home win and a 0–0 draw away.
Vasco began with back-to-back 3–0 away wins against União Rondonópolis and Nova Iguaçu. In the third round, they needed penalties to beat Operário-PR, winning 7–6.
Head-to-Head Record
CSA and Vasco previously met twice in the Copa do Brasil Round of 16. CSA won in 1992, Vasco in 2002. Across all competitions, they’ve played 13 times: 4 wins each, and 5 draws.
Predictions
Despite playing at home, CSA is not the favorite: their win pays 3.65, compared to 2.11 for Vasco and 3.15 for a draw.

Bahia vs Retrô
The only all-Northeast clash of the Round of 16 features Bahia vs Retrô, with the first leg scheduled for Wednesday (30) at 7:30 PM, at Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador.
Bahia entered in the third round and eliminated Paysandu with a 5–0 aggregate score. Retrô, on the other hand, started in the first round and beat Jequié 2–1 away, then Atlético-GO on penalties (4–1), and Fortaleza also on penalties (4–1) after two 1–1 draws.
Head-to-Head Record
This will be the first-ever match between Bahia and Retrô.
Predictions
Bahia is a heavy favorite, even playing away. The odds give them a massive edge: 1.18, compared to 16.0 for Retrô and 6.4 for a draw. To qualify, Bahia is at 1.08, while Retrô stands at 7.2.

Cruzeiro vs CRB
Both Cruzeiro and CRB entered this edition of the Copa do Brasil in the third round. The team from Minas Gerais eliminated Vila Nova with a 5–0 aggregate score, while the team from Alagoas needed penalties to beat Santos 5–4.
The teams face off at 7:30 PM (Brasília time) on Wednesday (30) at the Mineirão Stadium.

Internacional vs Fluminense
At 9:30 PM (Brasília time) on Wednesday (30), Internacional hosts Fluminense at Beira-Rio Stadium, in Porto Alegre. The Colorado joined the tournament in the previous round, eliminating Maracanã with a 4–0 aggregate.
Fluminense, meanwhile, has been in since the first round. The team played both of its first matches away and dispatched both opponents. First came an 8–0 thrashing of Águia de Marabá, followed by a 2–1 win over Caxias. In the third round, Fluminense eliminated Aparecidense with a 5–1 aggregate.
Head-to-Head Record
Longtime rivals, Inter and Fluminense have faced off 81 times, dating back to 1967. Internacional has 32 wins, Fluminense 24, and there have been 25 draws. They met in the 1992 Copa do Brasil final, where Inter won the title despite an aggregate draw, thanks to the away-goal rule.
Predictions
Internacional holds the edge at Beira-Rio with 2.07 odds. Fluminense comes in with 4.2, and a draw stands at 2.9. For qualification, the matchup is extremely close: Inter has 1.82, and Flu 1.95.

Corinthians vs Palmeiras
Also kicking off at 9:30 PM (Brasília time) on Wednesday (30) is another edition of the Paulista Derby: Corinthians vs Palmeiras, at Neo Química Arena — the 386th clash between these teams.
Both sides entered the 2025 Copa do Brasil in the third round. Corinthians eliminated Novorizontino with two goals, while Palmeiras won 4–0 over Ceará.
Head-to-Head Record
The Paulista Derby is over a century old and packed with rivalry. Across 385 matches (official and unofficial), Corinthians has 131 wins, Palmeiras 136, and there have been 118 draws. Despite the long history, this will be their first meeting in the modern Copa do Brasil format.
Predictions
Due to current form, Palmeiras is the favorite despite playing away, with 2.31 odds vs 3.3 for Corinthians and 3.05 for a draw. For qualification, Corinthians is at 3.35 while Palmeiras sits at 1.31. Still, as the saying goes: “A classic is a classic!”

Opening the final night of this week’s Copa do Brasil action, São Paulo hosts Athletico-PR at 9:30 PM (Brasília time) on Wednesday (30) at Morumbi Stadium. While São Paulo joined in the third round, Athletico-PR has been in the tournament since the first phase.
São Paulo eliminated Náutico in the previous round, winning both home and away 2–1. Athletico beat Pouso Alegre 2–0 away, then defeated Guarany de Bagé 3–1 at home, and most recently beat Brusque to secure qualification.

Their first meeting was in the 1968 Robertão. Over nearly 60 years, they’ve played 71 times: 26 wins for São Paulo, 21 for Athletico, and 24 draws. They met once in the Copa do Brasil — the 2018 quarterfinals — when Athletico advanced.

At home, São Paulo is the clear favorite, with odds of 1.59 vs 5.8 for Athletico. A draw pays 3.8. For qualification, São Paulo is at 1.41 and Athletico at 2.8.

To close out the first-leg matches of the 2025 Copa do Brasil Round of 16, Flamengo hosts Atlético-MG at 9:30 PM (Brasília time) at Maracanã Stadium. Both teams entered in the previous round.
Flamengo beat Botafogo-PB 1–0 away and 4–2 at home. Atlético drew 2–2 with Maringá away and then won 4–0 at home.
