Why is the Fortnite World Cup 2025 relevant?

Since this is our first Fortnite article, let’s bring some context. Released in 2011, Epic Games’ Battle Royale was an instant success and currently boasts over 250 million active players, according to Beboom data.

This popularity paved the way for eSports competitions, leading to the creation of the Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) in 2019, during Season X. Organized by BLAST and Epic Games, the FNCS divides the world into seven regions, each with its own tournaments feeding into the season’s peak: the Global Championship.

The Fortnite World Cup 2025 maintains the highest prize pool in its category, with $2 million to be shared among all trios — and the champions could pocket up to $450,000. But the rewards go beyond money: winners will secure their place in Fortnite history alongside legends like Bugha, Pollo, and Peterbot.

Additionally, the FNCS World Championship continues to set audience records: the 2024 edition reached 809,000 concurrent viewers, about 80,000 more than the previous year, according to Esports Charts.

To determine who qualifies for the World Championship, the season is divided into three Majors, with Divisional Cups, three Groups, Last Chance Lobby, and the Grand Finals. These competitions are held across all regions: Europe (EU), North & Central America (NAC), North America West (NAW), Brazil & Latin America (BR), Asia (AS), Middle East (ME), and Oceania (OCE) — ensuring diversity in the qualifying teams.

Major changes for the Fortnite World Cup 2025

This will be the fourth FNCS Global Championship and the second time it takes place on European soil. Although still a relatively young competition, the 2025 Fortnite World Cup brings major changes compared to previous editions.

At first glance, the number of athletes looks similar, dropping from 100 to 99, but the team composition has shifted: 33 trios instead of 50 duos in Fort Worth. This change promises to revolutionize match dynamics.

Winners of the trophy and medals will receive pieces designed by Thomas Lyte, the English luxury brand behind the iconic FA Cup and the Ryder Cup in golf. As for partnerships, ZOWIE will supply the monitors used by players during matches.

Event casters at the LDLC Arena will include French trio Benji, Choca, and former player Skite, alongside Aussie Antics, buckefps, and leothecrack providing on-site coverage — a team of true Fortnite competitive experts.

Format of the Fortnite World Cup 2025

While earlier events this season used the Swiss System for matchups, the Fortnite World Cup is different: the 33 qualified trios will play all 12 matches — six per day. Every game counts toward the final standings, as the team with the most points will claim the title.

Epic Games hasn’t released the official global final table yet, but it will follow the same scoring system used in Majors and regional qualifiers:

  • Victory Royale: 60 points
  • Top 10: 41–53 points (decreasing by placement)
  • Top 50: up to 1 point per match
  • Eliminations: 2 points each

This balance between survival and aggression makes every game strategic, as players must rotate carefully and prioritize safe zones. At the same time, an offensive playstyle focused on eliminations can also pay off!

Fortnite World Cup 2025’s Prize Pool

This year’s FNCS Global Championship will have the same prize pool as 2024: $2 million to be split among the 33 participating trios. Since there are fewer teams in the tournament, the champions will receive $450,000 for the title — $50,000 more than last year.

The runners-up will once again take home $300,000, while third place will earn $225,000 — $25,000 more than in 2024. Every team will receive prize money for participating, with the bottom three trios earning $9,000, an increase of $3,000.

Check the full prize distribution for each placement on the official Fortnite World Cup page.

Which trios will play in the Fortnite World Cup 2025?

Qualification for the Fortnite Global Championship is based on the leaderboard from each Major. Only players ranked from Division 3 of the FNCS and above are eligible to form a team, with each region offering a set number of slots for the World Cup.

Eight trios qualified through Major 1, with Oceania being the only region that did not secure any spots in this stage. Then, Major 2 stamped the tickets of 13 teams, and Major 3 confirmed the final 12 slots.

Some trios are made up of athletes from different organizations, such as the South American union of Cadu from Flame Hard, Stryker from Grêmio, and Tisco from ShindeN. In other cases, all three come from the same institution, like Chap, MrSavage, and rezon ay from Red Bull eSports.

The United States will have the largest player representation with 24. Next are Japan and Australia, with nine athletes each, followed by Poland with eight. Saudi Arabia will have seven representatives, and Brazil will bring six.

Players to Watch at the Fortnite World Cup 2025

There are 99 athletes across 33 teams, with many changes compared to FNCS 2024 — not only because of the addition of one more player per team, but also because strong-performing teammates split up!

Peterbot arrives in Lyon as the reigning champion, but he will attempt to defend his title with new partners: fellow Americans Ritual and Cold, who placed 12th and 26th in 2024. Interestingly, Mexican player Pollo will compete this year alongside his former teammate’s old partners, Acorn and Ajerss.

The duo that finished 11th last year, Clix and Veno, return to the Fortnite World Cup — but will attempt the title separately. Clix joins two standouts who were absent from last year’s Global Championship: Canadian Eomzo and American Higgs. Meanwhile, the Briton Veno teamed up with Flickzy and Vic0, a German and an Austrian who finished 4th in 2024.

Meanwhile, last year’s runners-up Merstach and Queasy will join forces with 11th-place finisher SwizzY. Bosnian Chico will not be playing alongside Serbian TruleX this time (he is absent this year) and instead will team up with two players who did not compete last year: Macedonian TaySon and Slovenian Hris.
