Authorized Betting in Brazil: Which Sports and Games Are Allowed by the SPA
Understand the regulatory framework and find out which sports and eSports competitions can legally receive bets in the country.
Betting and having fun with your predictions has been allowed in Brazil since 2018, following the approval of Law No. 13,756/2018 — initially under rules inspired by other jurisdictions. Since early 2025, however, the Brazilian license has come into effect, and the SPA (Secretariat of Prizes and Betting) has established new parameters, promoting Responsible Gambling and updating the list of Authorized Bets in Brazil.
You may have noticed that Blaze’s catalog underwent some changes at the turn of the year, both in the Casino Games and Sports Betting sections. This reflects our commitment to always providing entertainment in full compliance with regulatory requirements.
To help you understand everything that can (or cannot) be offered for betting in the Brazilian market, we’ve prepared this complete guide explaining all the details — including MESP Ordinances No. 125/2024 and No. 36/2025. After all, our goal is to ensure every Blaze player is a conscious and well-informed player!

eSports
Regarding eSports, MESP Ordinance No. 125 determines that they must be recognized by the IOC. There is still no official list of electronic sports disciplines authorized by the organization, although it already organizes events such as the Olympic Esports Games.
The IOC’s criteria for hosting eSports competitions include alignment with Olympic values, games that simulate traditional sports, and the absence of violence — which, for example, led to an adaptation of the Battle Royale Fortnite into a target-shooting competition.
Therefore, the Ministry of Sports updated the list through MESP Ordinance No. 36 of April 17, 2025, expanding the range of eSports authorized to receive bets. Only tournaments authorized or licensed by the game’s developer can accept wagers — which includes titles such as League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, and Dota 2.
Which bets are prohibited in Brazil?
Now it’s time to talk about what is not allowed by the SPA, as defined by MESP Ordinance No. 125. This includes amateur or semi-professional sports competitions that are not recognized by the appropriate authorities — meaning they do not meet the professionalization standards established by law and may even include athletes without links to sports institutions.
Another important point is keeping betting away from minors — and this applies not only to bettors but also to athletes. Therefore, no event that involves youth categories or is exclusively for minors can be the subject of betting, such as the São Paulo Junior Football Cup.
Additionally, the law prohibits the category of Special Bets, which previously allowed wagering on events such as the Oscars, reality shows like Big Brother Brazil, and even election outcomes.

Also remember to always study and plan your picks consciously and within your financial limits — for more advice, check out our Sports Betting Encyclopedia. Betting is for entertainment and fun, and therefore you should never use money you can’t afford to lose or treat it as a source of income or investment, since it carries risks to your mental and financial well-being.
